ddrsuper****, the only reason you agree with him is because you think these people are AAA-ing things with a controller. which they certainly are not. and hell, even if they are, who gives a ****? they're a few of the best players there are in this country. now why don't you shut up. stop being so ignorant and just accept the fact that we're all different people and we're all trying to prove a point.

the reason we're swearing and defensive because it's stupid people like you that make the community look bad. the ones who are too thickheaded and think that they're the best. but then you get out of your basement after playing this game for hours on end, have your mommy make you a sandwich, and go to a dancing game site and call BS on someone else cause they're better. just grow some common sense. once you play this game and AAA every song available to you, you'll get an understanding of how BPM's correspond with other songs. it's not very hard. now go pass max 300 or something.

Topic: DDR National Tournament in the Works
it's probably gonna come down to PA/MA moose. i highly doubt they'd do a no bar tournament because then they wouldn't be promoting their full video game since the bar is part of the platform. freestyle is so dead, i doubt they'll throw that in. they may do a doubles tournament. that'd be fun to watch.
Topic: DDR National Tournament in the Works
I'd try to go depending on who went that I know. I go to tournaments to chill with old friends, not so much the tournament itself.
Topic: DDR National Tournament in the Works
The bad thing about a national tournament (ATM anyways), is that they would play it on a SuperNova 2 machine I'm sure. And that throws some states at a disadvantage because we don't all have a (working) SN2 at all (especially with e-amuse).
Would this tournament be like the Namco one 3 years ago or would it be somewhere in the middle of the US to give everyone a fair advantage to fly/drive in? I know it's not concrete but I'd like to know what sort of plans are going into where this is and how they're going to get people to get adjusted to the game.
IMO, it should be like the Namco national tournament though. I don't know if all of you were a part of that but this is how it went: Every Namco arcade posted banners for the tournament on a specified date, then had individual tournaments with individual prizes BUT then the winner of each arcade had a chance to win the national portion of the tournament. They played 5 songs (mainly aimed 10 footers) and recorded the total score that person got. They sent it into Namco and the winners were announced on their website (and by mail?). Then each person (1st, 2nd, 3rd) received their money in a check form i'm assuming.
Have Konami post on as many forums or just somehow broadcast it to everyone and have sponsored arcades and such. Then have them post a list of participating places and have an individual but national tournament on their website. Granted you wouldn't find out if you won right away or not, but it saves people a BUNCH of money by (switching to Geico rofl) flying/driving/food/lodging. That would appeal to much more of a variety of people because the younger crowd can't always go to things like this and there would be many more people involved and it would motivate many more people to keep playing this game.
That's my 2 cents :P
Topic: My opinions (and others) suggestions for future releases.
Damien,
Wow, you came off pretty angry sounding in that one. If you're such a fan of Marvelous, have you tried Rediculous timing yet? No? Are you not -quite- that hardcore?
If there was a ridiculous timing added to a machine, it would be impossible for it to really recognize it always. The window is so tight that the sensor could react like.0003 seconds later than you had stepped to get a ridiculous, but it would register as a marvelous or an fantastic (whichever game you prefer). This has been addressed on AIJ a few times.
"nobody decent will play" ... then you wouldn't have anyone new come to play the game? And you wanna complain about speed changes but the 'boss songs' in ITG have ALWAYS had stupid speed changes. V^2 is a 12 if you cmod it.
It's the fact that the better people at the game get bored really easy with the new songs and stepcharts because either we've AAA'd everything or we just don't feel like playing the god awful heavy chart that Konami throws at us. Vertex Squared wasn't intended to be scored well on. Most of ITG wasn't meant to be scored well, but it has been anyways. Cmods are for noobs too, honestly. That's 1 song out of every ITG song that you're throwing out. Max 300, Maxx Unlimited, PS, PSMH, PSMO, LOM, Pluto, Pluto R, Faxx, Felm, HD, Chaos, Sakura. It took me 15 seconds to think of all those off the top of my head. All have some sort of stupid slow down/stop/speedup/awkward chart. Some worse than others of course, but they all have the same qualities.
"Every single person who is really good agrees." So, if I disagree, then as far as you're concerned I'm not really good? Both the guys I know locally who have passed every song in ITG/2 -no bar- (and 99% of all the ddr songs)(also nobar), really really really like that we've managed to put background videos in with r23 instead of r21. OWA has a really cool background video. I like to play on robot. My girlfriend plays on boomerang beat. Are we all not really good because we don't agree?
it's more addressed to the people who play for scores and don't like to spend lots of money to AAA one song because they can't read the arrows at a certain point of the song and get greats or other non-perfect grades. The revisions on ITG don't need to go more in depth than they already are. There's always hacking to put BG pics and vids, otherwise it's not really necessary.
"They just need to pick better songs." ... 'cuz music preference isn't at ALL subjective -rolls eyes-
Honestly, the only fun songs for me are the 8's and 9's. Not because they're "challenging" because they're not at all anymore. They're fun for the fact that the music is fun and upbeat to play instead of listening to annoying noises like the 10 footers have. But when you get to the point where 8's and 9's aren't a challenge for you at all anymore, you want to go harder.
Compare DDR to ITG 10's:
ITG- lyrical, upbeat, variety of speeds, fun charts, not repetetive
DDR- hardcore techno, same speed with some stupid and pointless slow downs, repetetive charts/music, all the same sound.
Honestly, do you want to play nearly the same song over and over again like a 12 year old girl and Butterfly? No, and nobody else wants you to either. Also, that's why Roxor threw out the R21 patch, so people could play their OWN kind of music. That's what made and makes it so popular, aside from stamina draining charts. You're not gonna let your child go up to a video game and want to play it if the attraction music is something like Korn or SOAD, right? That's why
Quarter speed mods? Then from .25 to 6x you have almost THIRTY speed mods. You actually WANT that? Sheesh.
He's not saying start at .25 and work your way up. Most people these days use speed mods between 2.5 and 5.5, that's still 12, but less than 30. Have you ever played on a hacked dedicab with modded speeds? from 1x to 6x with .25 mods between each speed, it doesn't take up anymore room than before. So it's not the space that's an issue. And most of the beginner players have no clue how to use the menu anyways, so it's not a huge deal at all.
LHoT, Yes, good players play too, but what percentage of the market do you think "good players" make up? I'll give you a hint, it's way way way way way way WAY less than 1.
It doesn't matter what the percentage is. How many people do you think actually play this game seriously? about 5% maybe? Who knows, who cares? That 1% is the percent that actually knows what they're doing in situations like this topic and such. We're the people who need to be listened to because we've spend more money on this game than most other people probably.
"there is really no reason why anyone would not like this idea." (Re: challenge on everything) Well, if you do that then say you have a budget for 100 charts. Totally random number right. If you do most songs with 4 levels and then a few with challenge charts you can affort to put in more songs. Pretty simple.
You add 4 more songs, that's 16 more charts. that's more work than adding challenge steps to songs. The idea is to play a song after you've AAA'd the "hardest" chart on it. I love a lot of songs on DDR, but I don't play them because I just don't like playing the same chart after I've AAA'd it 5 times. It gets old. But if they put in oni charts for my favorite songs, that'd be badass and I'd love to play the song more again.
It's not really that hard to get songs on sync, and you definately don't need to pay for the testing time to have 'good players' come and check the sync. It'd be nice if they could work it out better, but if you knew how it was actually programmed (I've been lucky enough to find a bit out about that lately) you'd know it's a lot more difficult than pushing buttons 1-4 on stepmania.
We're not dumb, we know that Konami uses a different system to figure out their bpms/syncess on songs. Look at ITG, revisions for that came out based on bugs and sync issues found by the arcade goers and good players who know how to time well. It DOES pay off to have the people who are actually good at the game, test it out.
If they brought back all the old songs then you'd complain that they didn't put any effort into getting new songs! There's just no winning sometimes :P
Some old songs are plain classics. And others just need to get thrown into a fire. It's opinion based but they need to keep some songs for a few mixes and kick others out after their debut.
"And if home versions are able to get songs from these artists, why can't the arcade versions also?"
Because they're different licenses and different contracts. And if you have it for home why do you need it in the arcade? Maybe they're trying to make arcade versions appeal to people who don't quite like it enough to drop 60$ on a new game and another 30,60,200,500$ on a new controller?
I, personally, don't want to go to the arcade hearing "Dance, Dance" or "Genie In a Bottle" every god **** time. I'm sure you wouldn't either. That's the reason they need to keep some songs at home and put others at the arcade. You're going to spend just as much or MORE if you go to the arcade to play instead of at home. Or if you do both, I'm sorry you're wasting your time and money.
Look at that, I can type just as much as anyone else :D
Length doesn't matter so much as quality.
sorry for any typos, i'm really tired.
