Well, I finally got another pad and I've started doubles. Any tips on how to get better? I can play 6/7's right now.
Doubles
You can play songs to learn crossovers. Like "silent hill" or "AA"
well AA no, because it have 9 foot... and if you play 6/7...
When I was learning to do doubles I watched a bunch of charts on my computer and imagined how I would move my feet without actually stepping - I was trying to wire my brain to be able to read it. Then I would go to the arcade and practice.
I find doubles is easier if you stay on your toes. I also usually play on a speed setting lower than what I do on singles.
It's time for dance.
Yeah, playing a speed mod or two slower on doubles is very helpful. You need more time to plan how you're going to move and on faster speeds that isn't really possible.
Also, try to avoid doublestepping. Most (not all) doubles charts are written to make it so you shouldn't have to.
I'm a total doublestep queen. I only do crossovers when holding freezes; my feet are not wired to hit arrows on the "wrong" side. I do just fine with that on singles - I can AA Exotic Ethnic, although my footwork is hilarious. However, when you're playing doubles you just can't doublestep; you'll lurch awkwardly from pad to pad and lose your place.
So, practice on technique first. Learn to "crabwalk" across the pads, turning yourself the shortest way to reach the next step comfortably. I dropped back down to Light to force myself to relearn this technique, then worked my way up after my feet got properly wired. An excellent article on DDRFreak about doubles technique did me much good.
So, now when I play doubles my technique is pretty good, but I still doublestep when I play singles. Go figure.
Addendum: it sounds like you're playing at home. Do you have a good way to keep your pads together? I use two Ignitios, and I've sewn a heavy-duty separating zipper to the fabric on the sides so I can zip them together when I play. They don't move nowhere!
People dance without arrows?
Yeah, I have the 2 RedOctane pads that come with ITG. As I did with my other pad before I got two, I duct taped them. I'll try reading that article though; looks interesting.
Hear's a good gide to keep the pads togeter. I’ve done it and it works wonders!

Happy DDRing.
Rocky 3: Everything we do works out the jab.
Doubles is all about which foot you hit which arrow with. Doublestepping on Doubles is like asking for it. Not only can you trip or something, but generally your timing will be worse. Now there are exceptions, so it's not absolutely set in stone.

Study that and you'll be passing 9's in no time.
